I need to track what link users click. I am thinking about dong that in Global.asax for each request.
Anybody did that before ? Code, performances ?

Doing it in the Global.aspx would be the standard place for a once off solution. Just stick it into the begin request.
Another solution would be to create a HTTP Module and plugin that into the pipeline. This has a number of advantages:
- It is not application specific - You can use the same http module for multiple web applications. So you could track clicks in multiple applications
-
You can track clicks across applications due to point 1 above.
- The code does not have to be written in the same language as the website. For example, if the website is in C# then you could develop it in VB.NET, or visa versa (In an enviornment like Developerss.ie where there will be multiple developers with different language skils working on different aspects of the site, it's good to be not tied down to one language.
- You can define the Http Module as being global for all apps (point 1) and then specify in each applications Web.config file whether or not the logging should be used.
-
I can do it for you if you want [:)]
Just my 2 cent.

| Thanks Brian. I think I am oing to use the Global.asax way but yes if you got some spare time to build a framework for the HTTP module, great thanks :-) |
